Various Open Educational Resources
Open educational resources (OER) are teaching, learning or research materials that reside in the public domain or have been realized under an intellectual property license that allows their free use, adaptations and distribution.
National Repository of Open Educational Resources (NROER)
NROER is developed by CIET, NCERT. It was launched during the National Conference on ICT for School education.
Aims of NROER
- To digitalize study material.
- To create e-content for educational purpose.
- To provide quality digital resources for the multilingual teachers and students.
- To distribute e-content on a broad level.
- To create educational resources in making the teaching learning process more effective.
- To encourage each state for the development of Open Educational Resources.
- To provide e-library to the teachers and students.
- To provide group platform to the educationalists for the development of e-content.
- To provide e-books to the students and the teachers related to their subject areas.
National Digital Library of India (NDL)
National digital library (NDL) is an initiative of IIT, Kharagpur and aims to provide free access to digitized educational content in English and other Indian languages on a common platform. The project started in 2015 and aims to bring under its fold 100 educational institutes and provide access to a collection of one million digitized books and journals in the first phase.
Shodhganga
Shodhganga is a digital repository of Indian theses and dissertations, set up by INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network) Centre in 2010. This repository provides easy access to theses and dissertations submitted in Indian Universities by doctoral and other research students.
Vidyanidhi
This open access institutional repository was set up in April 2013. It aims to cover scholarly publications covering journal articles, conference papers, books, book reviews, presentations, reports and patents since the establishment of the University in 1916.
Shodh Gangotri
Shodh-Gangotri is a repository by Indian Research in Progress. This is an initiative by the INFLIBNET Centre which was started in 2011. It contains repository of research students whose research is in the progress or not completed.
E-prints@iisc
It is the first open access digital repository, set up in 2001 by the National Centre for Scientific Information (NCSI) for providing access to research output by the IISc (Indian Institute of Science) research community.
National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL)
This is a joint initiative of the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT’s) i.e IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee and Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The project was funded by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). It aims to enhance the quality of engineering education in the country by providing easy access to curriculum based video and web courses in engineering an sciences. Online web and video courses are provided for free.
Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC)
It is an inter-university centre set up by the University Grants Commission (UGC). CEC with the help of about 21 Educational Multimedia Research Centres (EMRCs) produces educational (audio/ video/ web-based) programmes on syllabus-based topics for dissemination through television, Edusat, and Internet. These programmes are archived in a Learning Object Repository (LOR) and the Digital Video Repository (DVR) to provide easy access to these educational resources.
Project Eklavya
Eklavya IIT Bombat aims to enable better educational order and facilities for Indian students by using information and communication technologies to develop innovative channels of knowledge dissipation. The Eklavya portal is an attempt to generate an interactive platform for the creation, absorption, dissemination and usage of knowledge for the well-being of the individual and the society. It is a significant step forward to bring together students, teachers and working professionals to meaningfully enhance the productivity of the group and spread knowledge.
Project OSCAR
Project OSCAR (Open Source Courseware Animations Repository) is an initiative by Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. It is a large repository of web-based interactive animations and simulation, referred to as Learning objects for teaching various concepts in science and technology.
NMEICT
National Mission on Education using Information and Communication (NMEICT) was launched by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) in 2009. Its web portal is Sakshat that provides one-stop access to e-content, e-journals and e-books. The aim is to leverage the potential of ICT in providing high quality personalized and interactive knowledge modules over the internet, intranet for the all the learners.
Agropedia
Agropedia is an online knowledge repository serving as one-stop hub for information related to agriculture in India. The portal designed as an agricultural Wikipedia provides localized content in multiple Indian languages.
e-Gyankosh
gyankosh is a knowledge repository to store, index, preserve, distribute and share the digital learning resources developed by the ODL institutions in the country. This repository offers online access to around 3000 coursed of IGNOU and 2,000 video lectures.
e-PG Pathshala Project
This is and initiative of UGC for providing free access to standardized e-textbooks for postgraduate courses in different universities of the country. The project is taken up under NME-ICT and involves development of high quality, curriculum based, interactive e-content in different subjects across all
SWAYAM
SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is India’s own MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) platform, which offers free online courses on almost all the discipline to students or learners. The objective is to ensure access to the best teaching learning resources to all. The courses delivered on SWAYAM are expected to reduce the digital divide by providing access to best content to all. These courses are developed by reputed teachers in the country and available free of cost.
SWAYAM PRABHA
The SWAYAM PRABHA is a group of 34 DTH channels devoted to telecasting of high-quality educational programmes on 24×7 basis using the GSAT-15 satellite. Every day, there will be new content for at least 4 hours which would be repeated 5 more times in a day, allowing the students to choose the time of their convenience.
E-Shodh Sindhu
The e-Shodh Sindhu will continue to provide current as well as archival access to more than 10,000 core and peer-reviewed journals and a number of bibliographic, citation and factual databases in different disciplines from a large number of publishers and aggregators to its member institutions including centrally-funded technical institutions, universities and colleges that are covered under 12(B) and 2 (f) Sections of the UGC Act.
E-Basta
E-basta is governments Digital India initiative. This project has created a framework to make school books accessible in digital form as e-books to be read and used on tablets and laptops. Publishers can publish their resources on the portal for use by the schools. Students can then download such bastes form the portal or the school may distribute them through media like SD cards, e-Basta apps, downloadable from the portal, runs on any Android tablet. It can access the e-Basta created using the portal and render it for easy navigation by the students.
NISHTHA
NISHTHA is a capacity building programme for improving quality of school education through integrated teacher training. It aims to build competencies among all the teachers and school principals at the elementary stage. The functionaries (at the state, district, block, cluster level) shall be trained in an integrated manner on learning outcomes, school based assessment, learner-centred pedagogy, new initiatives in education, addressing diverse needs of children through multiple pedagogies, etc.
